What is this new league?
The fall camp is designed for skills, schemes, and competition for girls ranging from 2nd-6th grade. The head coaches of the Fargo Schools (us, Davies, and South) met with Freddy Coleman (head of Sanford Basketball) this summer trying to brainstorm ways to get girls more opportunities to participate in basketball throughout the year. This is the first year (so we are going to work out some kinks that come our way) so we are going to try this for only girls. Next year we are hoping to have an option for boys as well.
What are the dates?
September: 3rd, 8th, 10th, 15th, 17th, 22nd, 24th, 29th
October: 1st, 6th, 8th, 15th, 18th
(no camp on October 13th; Columbus Day)
What can you expect?
Have an hour session time slot twice a week to develop skills for players. Each girl will be working with the head coaches at their own schools/sites.
– For grades 4 through 6 only, there will be a “league night” that other teams will compete against the other Fargo schools. Those dates are 9/10, 9/18, and 10/8. We are waiting for FPS to determine which school hosts on what date (we will get that out to you as soon as possible). On 10/18, there will be a special league day where the athletes will all go to the Sanford Parks Complex (south of Walmart off of 52nd Ave S.) and compete there.
– On the three of the nights, Sanford is going to have one of their basketball trainers put our athletes through workouts that will help them with their basketball skills. This is included in the price.
– Grades 2 and 3 will not be competing in league nights and will be focusing on skills and games during their hour slot.
– Time slots: 2nd-3rd Grade will be from 7:00pm-8:00pm at Ben Franklin Middle School. 4th-6th grade will follow from 8:00-9:00pm. These hours are what works for gym space for our Northside Athletes (South and Davies may or may not have different times for their gyms)
– Each athlete signed up before August 25th will get a Camp T-Shirt (that acts as a jersey for grades 4-6) with the size they choose. Those that sign up after will have to get whatever sizes are available afterwards.
– For North, cash or check (written to Fargo North Girls Basketball) will be how we pay for the camp. 30 dollars for 2nd/3rd and 50 dollars for 4-6 grade. Next year, we plan on having a SchoolPay account set up for an online checkout.
